CHATTANOOGA FINE VIOLINS
Luthiers Since 2011
Seeking Full-time Luthier
Chattanooga Fine Violins is seeking candidates for a full time Luthier position. We are a full service, dedicated violin shop working only on Violin, Viola, Cello, and Bass with modern and antique instruments for sale, a repair shop for instruments and bows, and a rental fleet numbering about 400 instruments. Chattanooga Fine Violins has been able to develop a strong business in a short time and needs a dedicated long-term partner to carry on working at the level our customers require.
Workshop responsibilities include setting up violins, violas, celli, and basses for sale and rent, as well as handling complex restorations for shop inventory and customer repairs. Knowledge of (or the desire to learn) bow rehairing and repair would be an asset, but is not required.
As a small shop, all employees need to be well versed in customer facing tasks such as ringing up accessories purchases, initiating new rental contracts, helping customers shopping for a new instrument, etc. As such, strong computer skills are required as well as the ability to communicate with the public (especially families with children). Faculty in playing violin, viola, cello, or bass would be helpful, with violin or cello especially so.
Applicants should have training and/or experience in bowed string luthierie. Compensation depends on skills and experience with a base rate, plus quarterly bonuses based on shop performance. The shop is open not more than 33 hours per week, leaving one with free time to enjoy the natural beauty of the Chattanooga area (100+ trailheads within a 30 min. drive of downtown, world-class climbing, white water, mountain biking, hang-gliding, etc) with a cost of living 12.46% below the national average and much lower than large coastal cities.
